On Saturday 1st October 18 sailors met up at Ada for the 2 day Nissan Auto Parts Regatta to Sogakope, competing for the AJ Accad Cup. Racing started a little late in light winds and the flotilla of boats headed down wind up the river to Sogakope. The sailing was gentle, and more than a few crew enjoyed a little rest on the journey, nearer the front the racing was challenging and close fort in the end the day 1 honours went to Olivier and Valerie, with the top 4 boats all finishing within a few minutes of each other.
After a good celebration on Saturday night with a few beers thanks to CLUB Lager, the crews were all ready to go at 9am. The wind looked to be picking up with a couple of threatening storms down river and indeed the upwind sailing proved to much more exhilarating. At least one boat capsized and a number of crew were using their trapezes to keep the boats from going over. Line honours on day to went to the Commodore (David and wife Alicia). As always as the boats arrived at Subhi's Island there were welcomed with warm hospitality and a fabulous feast. In the end all 18 boats completed the regatta and the AJ Accad Cup went to Olivier and Valerie for the second year in a row.
Congratulations and look forward to seeing you all for the Newrest Regatta on Sunday 6th November - a set of new sails will be given to one lucky participant of the Regatta so be sure to join us on the 6th.
